Awlgrip Awlcraft 2000 Acrylic Urethane Topcoat Color Base

Awlgrip Awlcraft 2000 is a two-component acrylic urethane topcoat base for a buffable, high-gloss finish on boat topsides and superstructures. It is designed for professional spray application above the waterline.

Choose your color and size

One color-base container is supplied in the selected size. Awlcat No. 2 converter and spray reducer are sold separately. These named supplier colors are mixed to order; supplier fulfillment availability is not premixed shelf stock. Confirm preparation and dispatch timing for your job.

The original gallon-can photo is representative for quart selections. The selected size and exact manufacturer part number determine what you receive. Color chips come from the manufacturer's exact-code color card; screen colors are approximate. Approve a physical reference and test panel before painting.

Mixing and required components

Mix 2 parts Awlcraft 2000 color base with 1 part Awlcat No. 2 G3010 Spray Converter by volume. For standard air-atomized application, add the appropriate T0001, T0002, T0003 or T0005 spray reducer up to 33% of the combined base-and-converter volume to reach the specified viscosity. For example, 8 oz base + 4 oz converter + 3 oz reducer is 25% reduction. Reducer choice and addition depend on color, equipment and temperature.

Preparation and application

Spray only; do not use below the waterline. Best results are obtained over properly prepared 545 Epoxy Primer, Quick Build or 321 HS Undercoat. Existing finishes must be sound, tightly adhered and chemically compatible. The data sheet calls for a clean, dry primed surface smooth-sanded with 320 grit.

Typically apply three coats, allowing the appropriate flash-off interval between coats. Some colors need four or more coats for full opacity. Avoid overapplication and sagging. At 77°F, recoat within 30 minutes to 24 hours; a coating cured more than 24 hours must be sanded before recoating.

Coverage and cure

Theoretical coverage is 725.2 sq ft per mixed, unthinned gallon per coat at 1 mil dry-film thickness. This assumes 100% transfer efficiency and is not finished-project coverage; spray losses and multiple coats reduce practical coverage.

At 77°F, the published guide gives approximately 7 hours pot life, 24 hours hard-dry/tape-free, 3 days to light service and 14 days to full cure. Conditions, reducer choice and film thickness affect actual times. Maintain ambient temperature between 55–105°F and keep the surface at least 5°F above the dew point.

Safe handling

For professional use. Read the exact color's current container label and SDS before mixing or spraying. Use the specified ventilation, protective clothing, eye protection and respiratory protection. Keep solvent-containing materials away from ignition sources.
